What Can A Professional Web Designer Do That I Can’t?
It’s about time we talk about professional web designers. You’re probably thinking, do I really need them? It’s a question I get all the time, and my answer never changes. Yes, you do need a professional web designer.
Let me explain.
Professional doesn’t mean you have to spend tens of thousands of dollars. It’s more of a term used to describe someone that is skilled in web design. You are paying for their experience and expertise. Remember, they’ve likely built hundreds of websites. That’s a lot more than you’ve made.
I’m not trying to downplay your abilities. You’ve worked hard building your business after all. But, sometimes you need to accept help in areas where you are less experienced. That’s where a professional web designer comes in.
Here are a few reasons why I think you should hire a professional web designer to help you build your website.
1. You’ll Stand out from the Competition
Too many business owners try and build their own website. Sure, you may create a website that works, but it won’t help you stand out from the competition.
Professional web designers bring a lot of value to the table. They help you map out a design that fits your branding, has an optimized user experience, and helps you stand out from your competition.
How do they do this?
Market research. Web designers understand how to research your competition, target audience, and other relevant details. All of these details are really important and help keep your website focused on the important issues at hand.
It’s not that the website you build is bad. But all of those small mistakes add up and can be distracting.
You work hard to stand out from your competition. Whether you offer better prices or customer service, you don’t want your website to cheapen your business.
2. Responsive Design
Responsive design is all about optimizing your website for different devices. A responsive website will scale itself to fit the device that is browsing it. Your website needs to be responsive. It’s not an option anymore.
That basic website you built may be responsive, but your media files may not be. A professional web designer will optimize your images and videos to improve the performance of your website.
We’ve mentioned it before, but Google penalizes websites that offer a poor mobile experience. They are now focusing on mobile-first indexing. And really, who can blame them? The majority of Internet browsing takes place on mobile devices.
With responsive design, you don’t have to choose between desktop and mobile because you can do both.
3. SEO-Friendly Design
SEO, that one thing that most business owners hate. You always hear it thrown around, but SEO is still something that you need to focus on.
Ask yourself these questions.
When you designed your website, did you:
- Complete your keyword research?
- Optimize your titles?
- Write engaging meta descriptions?
- Add alt tags and descriptions to your images?
- Write copy with the right keyword density?
- Improve your page load speed?
And how would you approach:
- 301 redirects?
- 404 errors?
- Implementing a sitemap?
- Creating a backlink structure?
Sure, you may have completed a few of those things, but likely not all of them.
Here’s the truth.
You need to complete all of them if you want your website to be SEO-friendly. A professional web designer can help you with all of those things. An SEO strategy requires the right keywords, the knowledge of how to use them, and technical experience to manipulate the different aspects of your website. If you don’t have those skills, it can be difficult to do all of these things.
4. They’re Not Biased
It’s no secret. You love your business. But that love for your business can make you biased. You may see your products and services as the best.
A professional web designer isn’t biased. It’s their job to identify your strengths, weaknesses, and to create a website that will sell your products and services. Their designs focus on things like:
- Lowering your bounce rate
- Engaging your customers
- Establishing the buyer’s journey
- Creating and networking your content
- Optimizing your social media accounts
They have the expertise to tie all of these things together into a coherent design. Remember, distracting designs only hurt your business. Today, your customers want a simplified experience that nurtures them.
5. They’ve Got the Tools
Let’s start this section with an analogy. You can technically build a house with basic tools like a hammer, screwdriver, saw, nails, and screws. But wouldn’t you rather use power tools?
Professional web designers bring more than just their expertise to the table. They also have all the power tools needed to design an awesome website. You know, programs like:
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe Premiere
- Premium plugins
- SEO tools
You can purchase all of these tools, but the subscriptions alone will cost you a decent amount. Plus, you’d have to spend additional time learning how to use them.
A professional web designer knows how to put these tools to work and get you the results you want.
