6 Reasons Why You Still Need Print Design Services for Your Business

Whether you’re a wantrepreneur, an entrepreneur, or a seasoned business owner, you probably understand the importance of advertising. There’s no denying we live in the digital era, but you shouldn’t make the mistake of dismissing print design services.

Now, I don’t blame you for making those claims. After all, you see major companies like Facebook, Google, Instagram, Snapchat, and other media-heavy social media platforms continue to dominate the advertising space.

These platforms are dominant and some businesses do very well advertising on them. But print design services are still incredibly valuable and an easy way for some businesses to advertise and reach their target audience.

And before you call me crazy, hear me out.


1. Print design response rates are surprisingly high

ROI (return on investment) is one of those buzzwords that you hear thrown around a lot online. It’s an important statistic because it dictates how much value you get for an investment.

Well, there’s good news when it comes to print design and related services. Direct mail tends to have a very high response rate, coming in at around 5.1%, while email is 0.6%, paid ads are 0.6%, online display is 0.2%, and social media is 0.4%. Building on that, direct mail tends to have an ROI of 29%, and that number comes in even higher when your mailers are personalized. In contrast, email has an ROI of over 125%, but that has a lot to do with how easily and cheaply you can blast emails.

Does this mean you should abandon all online advertising? No, that would be a bad idea. Instead, you need to take advantage of both. This means you need to work with a graphic designer who offers both digital advertising and print design services. 2. No one really stands out in the digital era

Here’s how it works for most business owners. They input their credit card into Facebook, upload a picture, type a post, and publish their ad. One week later, they receive a $200 bill and no leads.

This happens time and time again. Why? Because the average business owner doesn’t know how to optimize a campaign, they don’t understand how digital advertising works, and they certainly don’t know how to reach their target audience.

Campaigns that rely on print design services often involve mailing lists that are focused or more suited to your products and services.

For example, advertising a landscaping service on Facebook over a geographic region works, but how do you stand out against the 30 other landscaping companies advertising in that same region?

I know one way that works – the old-fashioned door hanger. Landscaping companies are seasonal by nature. One of the best ways for them to land new clients is to drop door hangers and other printed materials at residential homes early in the spring. Not only will you have the chance to meet the customers you are trying to convince, but some of them will value that personal touch, that physical touch, and that’s what helps you stand out more from the pack. Because when you’re trying to stand out, a well-timed physical ad (like a seasonal door hanger for a landscaping company) cuts through the noise and advertises a service that homeowners actually need.

3. Print design services work really well for specific industries

Print design advertisements tend to perform better for local companies that have a direct product or service to offer that can succeed with very little explanation.

Look at it like this.

If a local pizza shop takes the time and has a professional designer create them a mailer to send out to residents within a small radius of the store advertising a weekend special, they stand a good chance of grabbing those residents attention.


Because the special is relevant to them. Maybe they’re having some friends over on the weekend and pizza is a great idea, or maybe they got in late on Friday night and are too lazy to cook, whatever their reasons, that physical mailer stuck to their refrigerator reminds them that the pizza shop exists and can solve their problems.

On the flip side, a mailer advertising a dating app probably wouldn’t do very well. I’m not going to go into detail why because the answer should be fairly obvious. In short, everyone (for the most part) likes pizza, while a dating app probably isn’t relevant to most, and in all honesty, is better advertised online.

4. Print lets you get your full message out there

Sometimes the materials you create through print design services are just that much better. If you’ve ever tried to advertise on Google or Facebook, you know how frustrating it is to try and get your message out there with word counts and character limits.

Now look, I’m not suggesting that you write a book through your print design ads. That’s an easy way to get your hard work thrown in the recycling bin (garbage bin if they aren’t environmentally friendly). But there is a little more flexibility when it comes to print design. You can create an ad that tells your story, hits your unique selling propositions, and provides you enough space to include the information you need.


5. Trade shows and event aren’t going anywhere

Trade shows and events are an important part of networking and growing your business. By attending strategic events, you can meet new customers, suppliers, and network with other individuals in your industry.

One of the easiest ways to break the ice at events like these is through the time-tested business card, brochure, and other materials that you get with print design services.

Sure, you may add these people to your email list – and you should – but it’s your print design materials that will get their attention and pull them in.

6. There’s something special about holding printed materials

In 2007, the average person saw more than 5,000 ads per day. I don’t even want to tell you what that number is today given how popular digital marketing has become.

With so many ads fighting for our attention, print materials sometimes have the advantage of just being, you know, physically present. There’s something special about being able to flip through a brochure, touching a postcard ad, and scanning the weekly flyer.

Printed advertisements are able to skip the noise of online advertising, and when done right, have the ability to stand out more.
